Hello Everyone, 

Below are some images that I found this week. The image on the left I just thought was pretty nifty, though I'm not sure how practical it is for this project. The image on the right is probably a little more relevant (I apologize for the small size, you can see a larger version on the link at the bottom of this post). This image was interesting to me, because it seems like the shelves are slotted into wide vertical boards. I thought perhaps this could be an advantageous alternative to the pegs in that it might be easier to make a freestanding unit with the wider vertical sections. Or what if the unit was a combo of slotted shelves towards the bottom (to give a base to the units) and then pegs on the top? Maybe this would make it feel more grounded and less dense on top? 

Another thought about the units is that I do not think the modular compartment spaces need to go all the way to the ground. I don't think anyone would want to crouch down to look at any small or medium sized work. So perhaps that space could instead be used for displaying large ceramics, small furniture, the hanging of clothing/textiles, or storage? (Did we talk about this on Monday?? I apologize if it was already mentioned and I'm being obnoxiously redundant...)

   

I also do not remember if we came to a conclusion about whether or not to try the transparent/opaque fabric. It is my feeling that if we are to make a wooden structure, it would be nicer to show off the wood rather than hide it. The image below on the right was kind of what I was referring to when I suggested wrapping the structure in copper or metal. I know that pillar is kind of intense, but I was just thinking of it as an idea or look. My feelings are the same for the image of the joinery on the left.  In light of the complexity that it seems that the structure might have, I guess this kind of construction is probably rather unrealistic. Perhaps the design could somehow be simplified?

I just hope that they give feel for methods of displaying different types of objects. (I know that they are out of the context of a booth, but maybe they can give ideas for different elements within the booth?)

Hello!

I found this image of the American Craft Council show that I thought was pretty cool and might give you guys a better idea about the type of space and other booths we will be around.  Looking forward to seeing the progress on the designs!
